The new year is galloping ahead yet nothing has changed at Holt Street in Surry Hills in inner-Sydney.

Our MGH compilers sometimes wonder if Anthony Albanese sends regular messages of thanks – even a giftpack of a leg of ham, a selection of cheeses and some nice bubbly – to various Newscorpse platforms for their ultra-right-wing views and constant exhortations that the Liberal and National Parties need to move further to the right to be electable!

The Murdochs might be geniuses at making money and bullying and dividing people but they continue to achieve four-fifths of six-eights of fuck-all in their efforts to bend Australian voters to their will.

The worst – or should that be best – at this counterproductive malarkey is the national broadshit The Australian, which continues its two-track coverage of the issue of antisemitism with a recent item.

It yet again eviscerated PM Anthony Albanese for supposedly single-handedly stoking anti-Jewish sentiment and physical attacks and, by extension, terrorist murders.

But apparently to balance those editorial sentiments, it also yet again totally ignored the fact that
Albanese’s Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu is 100 per cent responsible – or more like 400 per cent or 800 per cent if Trump maths were real – for fuelling antisemitism around the world with his openly and vigorous genocidal policies against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. 

So much for fair and balanced reporting.

Not sure the MGH has ever shared this with you BUGgers which means you wouldn’t be aware of the absolute gut-churning trepidation that grips us all whenever we gather for our morning editorial meeting to discover that Thursday’s SMH has a Hardly Normal wraparound and that the fake inside front page has been folioed as page 3.

Like as in this morning. And why the angst? Of all the Herald subs who have fucked up the page numbering over far too long now it’s the lazy buggers who plop their lazy arses down for a Wednesday night shift and who couldn’t give a flying fuck how the Thursday edition will be numbered.

But have a look at this!

Today’s SMH had two stories spill from page 3 and one bright sub – heavens, maybe two or would that be asking too much? – got it right and said both yarns came from Page 3! Not the cover page or the front page or, worst of all, page one!

The MGH has had its heart broken before when weeks of professional activity at the Heralds led us to hope our years’ long education program centred on one of the basic lessons of the craft of sub-editing had finally borne fruit only to be squashed by fresh fuckups by Wednesday night and Friday night subs just in the past week or so.

So what do you think, BUGgers? Does today’s efforts give us hope that our countless lessons on page numbering have perhaps, just perhaps, been finally – and fingers crossed, permanently – understood?
