Trump dumps Nobel Prize

WASHINGTON, DC: US President Donald Trump has destroyed and dumped the Nobel Peace Prize medal belonging to Venezuelan opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado, which she gifted to him on her visit to the White House yesterday. (main picture)

Ms Machado is believed to have sacrificed the rare honour in her bid to have Mr Trump throw his considerable and growing weight behind her efforts to assume the leadership of her country following the capture and jailing by US military forces of President Nicolas Maduro.

But at a White House press pool briefing today, presidential press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, (below) revealed that Mr Trump had since disposed of the medal.

“The President has very specific views on how a leader of a nation must behave,” Ms Leavitt said.

“Unfortunately, Ms Machado did not meet the high standards demanded by President Trump.

“The Nobel Peace Prize medal she handed to the President simply did not contain sufficient gold or gold plating.

“Because of that, it would have detracted from the subtle motif President Trump’s personal and unrivalled decorating skills have brought to the historic Oval Office. (main picture)

“In addition, unlike the FIFA peace medallion given to the President last year, it is not possible for him to wear the Nobel Peace Prize around his neck.

“As a result, the President ordered the Nobel Prize to be destroyed by the Secret Service and it has now been dumped in landfill at an undisclosed but secure site outside Washington.

“The President hopes that Ms Machado will take a lesson from this unfortunate incident, namely that world leaders need to set a standard of behaviour in their interactions with each other and on this occasion she has not met the President’s standards,” Ms Leavitt said.
