SYDNEY: News Crap Australia’s recently appointed in-house independent ombudsman will launch an in-depth investigation into the company’s publication of the letter from families of people killed in the Bondi Beach terrorist shootings demanding that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese establish a royal commission into antisemitism.

Noted retired jurist Sir Bert Zion-Smeer (main picture) was appointed earlier this month to the ombudsman’s position within the Murdoch media group.

At the time Sir Bert said he saw his job as addressing community concerns about the overt and unquestioning editorial stand the Murdoch media had taken to fully back military assaults by the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Iran, Qatar, Yemen, and Syria as well as the overt and unquestioning editorial stand it had taken in its non-coverage of Netanyahu’s openly genocidal activities and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza.

“Concerns have been raised with me as independent ombudsman that News Crap Australia is milking for its own political and commercial benefit the genuine grief of families of those killed at Bondi,” Sir Bert said.

“The letter from the families published yesterday on 29 December was dated 29 December yet it appeared on the front pages of hard-copy metro turdbloids the same day so News Crap Australia had exclusive possession of it the day before with other media outlets following it up once it appeared in Murdoch outlets.

“To me an open letter suggests all outlets should have had an equal opportunity to publish it, so the question for me as ombudsman to consider is: What role if any did News Crap Australia have in encouraging or drafting the letter and did it influence the timing of its release and the exclusive nature of its publication?

“Above all, I remain very concerned that once again News Crap Australia’s coverage has blanked the Gaza genocide by Benjamin Netanyahu against Palestinians and its role in fuelling antisemitism.

“If News Crap Australia had a role to play in the drafting of the letter, did it seek to have included the impact of the ethnic cleansing by Netanyahu that has seen more than 70,000 Palestinians killed including 20,000 children? If not, why not?

“In line with News Crap Australia’s well-established Your Right to Know campaign I am very confident that I can very quickly deliver a report that will address in depth all of these concerns,” Sir Bert said.
