WASHINGTON, DC: US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, (main picture) has called for a further tightening of accreditation standards for reporters covering the Pentagon following what he called “woke left-wing and treasonous” questioning at a news conference today.
Mr Hegseth had called the news conference to outline the decision by the Trump administration to launch missile attacks by US drones and US Navy missiles on alleged ISIS terrorist camps in north-west Nigeria. (below)

While either deliberately or accidentally mispronouncing Nigeria with a soft initial “i”, Mr Hegseth echoed comments by President Donald Trump who had posted on social media that the attacks against “ISIS terrorist scum” were in retaliation for the killing of Christians by Islamic State terrorists.
But then the mood in the room soured when he was asked about the reported decision by Mr Trump to delay the attacks until Christmas Day to give ISIS “a Christmas present”. (below)

Mr Hegseth began looking agitated when asked if the Trump-ordered delay meant more Christians might have died at the hands of ISIS “just so the President could make a political point”.
He then grew visibly sober when other reporters asked if the US held similar concerns for Muslins killed by ISIS in Nigeria, if the same concerns extended to Palestinians in the Gaza genocide, and whether the Trump administration’s efforts to save Christians could be extended to Ukraine by sufficiently arming the European nation to repel Russia’s invasion.
The final straw for Mr Hegseth was apparently a question asking him to point to Nigeria on a large map of the world in the Pentagon briefing room.
At that he stormed out of the news conference and, according to recordings made by some reporters, declared he would “kill the woke, left-wing treasonous” media representatives who “dared to ask questions at a news conference”.
One of Mr Hegseth’s aides later denied the remark, saying the War Secretary merely expressed his plans to make more changes to the accreditation standards for the Pentagon press pool on top of those made earlier this year .
“The Secretary actually said he would ‘cull’ the press pool to ensure it is populated only by card-carrying MAGA supporters who know their place, keep their mouths shut, and just report what he says,” his aide said.
“After all, that’s what democracy is all about.”
