Repeated footage of a Brisbane suburban vehicle bingle on Nine News Queensland last night (Saturday) has catapulted the bulletin into serious consideration for one of The Bug’s most coveted media awards!
We’re referring to The Bug’s Gold Shield for 2025 For The Record Number of Times Footage of a Car, Train or Plane Crash or Similar is Shown Over and Over Again to Pad Out Hour-Long TV News Bulletins, Especially at Weekends When Fuck All Happens!

So let’s roll the tape and count Nine News footage of a police car being rammed at an intersection in West Chermside that left three cops not too badly injured.
Reporter Ha-Teya Gripske wasn’t mucking around – or to be fair, her producers weren’t – when her report kicked off with three looks at the video of the intersection collision that sent the police car crashing into a traffic light pole.

During the remainder of Ha-Teya’s report, we got to see it four more times, the last two with a final flourish right at the end.

SEVEN! That’s got to be some sort of record, right? WHAT! You want more!
Well, at the start of the bulletin as news presenter Lili Greer ran through the main items of the day, the video was shown – TWICE! And again when Lili introduced the segment a little later on (at top, right).
One of our shield judges hinted at shield glory by year’s end for this spectacular Nine News Queensland effort: “I can’t see anyone else coming even close to knocking this off.”
“I can’t see anyone else coming even close to knocking this off.”
“I can’t see anyone else coming even close to knocking this off.”
“I can’t see anyone else coming even close to knocking this off.”
“I can’t see anyone else coming even close to knocking this off.”
“I can’t see anyone else coming even close to knocking this off.”
“I can’t see anyone else coming even close to knocking this off.”
