Cops seek advice on Frydenberg speech

LEGAL ARGUMENT:

SYDNEY: NSW Police are unclear at present about just how to respond to multiple requests for a missing person’s investigation following the speech at Bondi Beach yesterday by former federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg.

A police spokesperson told The Bug: “One key person was missing from the former federal Treasurer’s inflammatory speech which probably explains why police stations across NSW and other states and territories have received hundreds, possibly thousands, of requests for police to begin a missing person’s investigation,”

“Those making the requests pointed out that in his speech Mr Frydenberg found time to directly blamed Anthony Albanese for Sunday’s killings.

“Mr Frydenberg mentioned the Prime Minister 23 times in his speech, but the requests made to us point out that Mr Frydenberg never once mentioned Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.

“The requests we received say there is an obvious need for a missing person’s inquiry sparked by Mr Frydenberg’s speech because it sticks out like dog’s… I mean, it is clear that the Israeli Prime Minister’s cold-blooded genocidal killing of more than 70,000 Palestinians including more than 20,000 children is an obvious and relevant factor in the motivation of the two shooters who murdered innocent Jewish people on Sunday.”

The police spokesperson said it was unclear if investigators had the legal grounds to launch a missing person’s inquiry based on a speech in a public place.

“NSW Police is at at present seeking an urgent expert legal opinion on this matter and we hope to have the question clarified soon,” the spokesperson said.

“In the meantime, we are looking at other options such as politely requesting Mr Frydenberg to return to Bondi Beach and repeat his speech in a modified form to include references to relevant facts such as Mr Netanyahu’s role in escalating antisemitism around the world through his ongoing genocide in Gaza, the West Bank and elsewhere.

“If that polite request doesn’t work we may need to determine if allegations that our PM is directly culpable for multiple murders means we can force Mr Frydenberg to do so under existing hate speech provisions,” the spokesperson said.
