ANTISEMITISM:
TEL AVIV: Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has stepped up his attacks on the Albanese Government, saying it needs to follow his lead to combat antisemitism.
Speaking at a news conference where he unveiled a new official scoreboard tracking deaths in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli Defence Forces, (main picture) Mr Netanyahu said Australia’s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, was not showing the type of leadership the Israeli Government was delivering.
“I note the remarks by former Australian prime minister John Howard who says Mr Albanese is not showing the necessary moral leadership on this issue,” he said.
“I agree, and – dare I say – Mr Albanese needs to take a leaf out of my book and show the type of moral leadership I’ve been showing for the past two-plus years.
“Killing as many Palestinians as possible including around 20,000 terrorist children and totally destroying every square inch of Gaza to force Palestinians out of the area – not to mention the West Bank – is obviously the best and surest way to combat antisemitism and deliver security for Jewish people around the world,” he said.
Mr Netanyahu said he was at a loss to explain the recent upsurge in antisemitism around the world.
“For some unfathomable reason we have witnessed a rise in antisemitism since October 2023,” he said. “I can see no explanation for this.
“If only someone could explain what has caused this.
“I have read a lot of the media coverage in Australia in the past few days and all mainstream media outlets there also seem at a loss to explain why attacks on Jewish people have risen since October 2023.
“The only reason I can see is Australia’s vote at the United Nations to support recognition of a Palestinian state.
“Clearly that has inflamed the situation but luckily that will never happen on my watch, and my hard-line stand will only help make Jewish people even safer,” he said.
Mr Netanyahu then ended the news conference to enable aides to update the new scoreboard.
