Like many, many Australians, I’m spending today completely at a loss to explain how anyone or any group can be so driven by ethnic and religious hatreds – so totally captive to some unspeakable evil that has convinced them they belong to some master race and that their enemies are sub-human and deserve to die – that they can go out and slaughter totally innocent and unarmed civilians.
