WASHINGTON, DC: Further concerns have been raised about the cognitive health of US President Donald Trump following his behaviour at a White House meeting today.
Political observers were surprised at the warm and friendly reception Mr Trump gave today to recently elected Mayor of New York Zohran Mamdani.
For months before the mayoral election the President warned New Yorkers not to elect “a communist” when attacking the Democratic Party candidate who had openly declared himself as a democratic socialist and repeatedly pilloried the President and his administration.
Mr Trump had also promised to withhold federal funds from New York if Mr Mamdani won the election.
But reporters attending the Oval Office meeting today said there were hints in the President’s behaviour that could explain his apparent change in attitude.
“During the meeting President Trump dropped a few clues to explain his sudden change of heart, but a lot of people in the Oval Office didn’t pick up on them,” one reporter said.
“For instance, Trump at one point told his visitor that he admired his plans for rebuilding Syria after so many years of civil war.
“He also repeatedly emphasised that the meeting marked the very first time a Syrian president had visited Washington, let alone the White House.
“Then as soon as Mayor Mamdani left the Oval Office, Trump took a phone call from Ahmad al-Sharaa in Damascus (below) and started berating him for being a radical communist and promising to cut all of his city’s federal funding.”

The reporter said after hanging up the phone, a dribbling and swivel-eyed President Trump pointed in turn to objects on the famous Resolute Desk and told each one: “Quiet. Quiet, piggy.”
“It was at that point that press secretary Karoline Leavitt took her Glock handgun from a belt holster and told reporters to vacate the Oval Office at once,” the reporter said.
