Some federal Liberal MPs holding metropolitan seats have already started to adjust their campaign plans for the 2028 election in the wake of the party’s decision to abandon a net-zero target for emissions from its climate change policies.
Member for the inner-Melbourne seat of Goldstein, Tim Wilson, is the first to unveil a new approach to his on-the-ground campaign tactics.
“Yes, I have drafted new campaign posters which I hope to use in the lead-up to the 2028 election,” Mr Wilson said. (main picture)
Mr Wilson responded sternly when quizzed about the possibility his new posters could mislead voters.
“I deny completely that the new posters are misleading,” he said.
“They are designed simply to emphasise that despite the change to my party’s official policy on climate change, I am very much aware of environmental issues.”
Mr Wilson said he had discussed a proposal with other Liberal MPs holding inner-metropolitan seats around the country to use similar posters at the next election.
“I obtained a quote from the poster designer and printer to supply similar versions to all city-based Liberal MPs,” he said.
“Unfortunately my idea of using the design more widely by colleagues in other states holding metro seats for the Liberals came to nothing.
“It seems the production costs will just blow out to unaffordable levels based on such a minuscule print run,” he explained.
