Ley sees upside in scrapping target

CANBERRA: Federal Opposition Leader, Ssussan Ley, says abandoning a net-zero emissions target will allow the Liberal Party to present a new face to the electorate in time for the next election.

Speaking at a news conference with her senior shadow ministry leadership team (main picture) Mss Ley said the move to drop a specific target for cutting emissions to fight climate change would give voters a clear choice at the 2028 poll.

“We in the Liberal Party need to ensure we present to voters an alternative to the Albanese Government.

“After all, that’s what opposition is all about as my predecessor Peter Dutton proved.

“I believe that with no net-zero target I can build on the work Peter did and go further, much, much further, than he result he achieved.

“After all, if there are demands by voters for a net-zero target then we will more than meet those demands by having zero targets.

“We can present a new face to voters in 2028 and I’m sure they’ll like what they see,” she said.

WASHINGTON, DC: The White House has denied that a US military build-up near Venezuela signals a possible war against the Latin American nation to divert attention from domestic issues damaging to President Donald Trump.

“I can deny that categorically,” presidential press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, told reporters at a White House briefing. “It’s just more fake news.

“As everyone knows Venezuela is the Epstein-centre… I mean the epicentre of illegal drug trafficking to the American market,” Ms Leavitt said.

“That’s is why the President has in recent weeks ordered Air Force attacks on narcosubs and other vessels carrying drugs to the US.

“He has done this to apply Maxwell pressure…. I mean maximum pressure on Venezuelan drug lords and the country’s President Nicola Maduro who has been turning a blind eye or even encouraging the paedophiling… I mean peddling of drugs to the US,” she said.
