CANBERRA: As federal Liberal MPs arrive in the national capital to debate their party’s emissions-reduction policy, a number have publicly urged leader Ssussan Ley to follow the National Party’s lead and walk away from any net-zero target.
Speaking outside the arrivals hall of Canberra Airport, a little-known backbencher who gave his name as Albert Neezy (main picture) said Mss Ley “should do the Right thing”.
“Quite frankly all MPs make these type of decisions on how it affects their seat and their party’s seats, and I personally see benefits for me in her doing the Right thing on emissions-reduction policy,” Mr Neezy told one of The Bug‘s federal political reporting team before quickly ending the footpath interview.
“Big benefits,” he added before re-entering the airport terminal and re-emerging to speak to other media outlets.
Another previously unknown backbencher, Christine Bo-When, (below) said Mss Ley had her full support.

“I personally will defend Ssussan against any leadership challengers,” Ms Bo-When said.
“She’s exactly the leader we need and she needs to stay in the job until the 2028 re-election, I mean election,” she said.

WASHINGTON, DC: Former New York mayor, Rudy Giuliani, says he has mixed feelings about US President Donald Trump’s decision to pardon him for convictions linked to his efforts to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election.
Mr Giuliani (below) said he naturally welcomed the pardon but also felt disappointed that he would not have a chance to use his personal skills to clear his own name.

“I have always been willing and ready to use my own talents and knowledge as a lawyer to stand in any US court room and act as my own legal counsel when facing election-rigging charges,” he said.
“I believe anyone who has witnessed my actions since the 2020 election would know that I do not need to hire a team of lawyers and that I am more than capable of conducting my own prosecution.
“Or should that be defence? Whatever,” Mr Giuliani added.
