Powerhouse disappoints a second time

TIME CAPSULE NEWS:

A Brisbane man is fuming after Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum once again knocked back his idea for items to include in a time capsule it plans to bury for 100 years

The museum is to bury the time capsule at its new $1.2 billion Parramatta Powerhouse when it opens next year after relocating from its current Ultimo site in central Sydney.

Trevor Snerd (main picture) said he was upset after the Powerhouse rejected his idea for what to put in the time capsule.

“I wrote and suggested that the Powerhouse put all of the Sky News ‘after dark’ hosts in it and bury them for the next 100 years,” Mr Snerd explained.

“I thought it would great to seal up the likes of Andrew Bolt, Peta Credlin, Paul Murray, Rowan Dean and the rest of those far-right commentators for at least the next century.

“Just to be on the safe side I added Alan Jones to the list even though I know he is no longer on the air.

“But the Powerhouse wrote back saying the capsule was less than a metre long and 40 cms high so apparently the ‘after dark’ crew wouldn’t fit.

“While I’m upset at this initial rejection I see a ray of hope because the Powerhouse used the size of the time capsule to reject my idea and didn’t discount it altogether.

“I guess there is still some hope if they manage to get their hands on a bigger capsule before burial day.

“In 100 years if Australia is a fascist dictatorship then people of the day can open the time capsule and see some of those responsible. If we are still a functioning democracy they’ll be able to see the rag-tag bunch of far right arseholes who tried to pull off a Trump-style coup.”

Mr Snerd it was the second time his idea for contents of a time capsule had been rejected by the Powerhouse Museum.

The museum buried a time capsule in 1981 when it first opened at the Ultimo site which it is vacating to head to new and larger premises in the city’s west.

“Oddly enough I wrote to them at the time suggesting they put Alan Jones in the time capsule to be opened in 2081, but they rejected that idea back then too,” Mr Snerd said.
