Another night shift has passed at the The Sydney Morning Herald where our sub-editors didn’t have a fucking clue as to how to apply the basics of that wonderful craft.
Sorry, a correction. One sub knew his or her page arthur from their page martha. Have a look at this!

This sub – God blessed their cotton socks – actually knew how today’s (Thursday’s) edition was folioed. We just hope this sub hasn’t been sacked for competence. To see that story’s spill being handled correctly gave the tired, washed-up, old hacks who compile this column brief hope that their long-running campaign, basically to help those subs count pages when the book they are working on includes an advertising wraparound, had finally made headway!
But, alas, NO!
Below are the two other stories that flowed from PAGE THREE!

A newspaper’s page 3 has NEVER, EVER, been page 1. A sub-editor who makes that mistake gives us all little hope about the fucking accuracy of anything else they’re editing – if that’s the word for what they are doing!
So let’s run our little lesson again with, admittedly, very faint ongoing hopes of success.

And, finally, here’s something we haven’t stressed for quite a while. Seeing it appears quite beyond most of you, after you’ve plopped your lazy, unprofessional, arses down for a shift and squirted one another with your fake flowers, barped your noses and laughed yourself silly over your whoopie cushion and fart machine pranks, to check how the edition is to be folioed, at least do this.
The masthead on the front or cover page, also known as PAGE ONE, has all the information a real front or cover page or PAGE ONE masthead is required of it.
