New trophy salutes media fuckups that seem unfixable!

The Bug at its editorial executive meeting just completed (Friday, 9.10am) has voted unanimously to strike a new annual trophy (early design sketch pictured above) honouring a special area of mainstream mediocre incompetency.

The executive has instructed its graphics department to create sketches of the new trophy and to forward them to our trophy makers as quickly as possible, with instructions that no expense should not be spared.

The award has been inspired by 9NOW’s inability/ignorance/couldn’t give a flying fuck that its links to the Nine News Queensland bulletins plugged the network’s Adelaide team of news presenters and reporters for four fucking days!

Over a very long time now, The Bug‘s media columns, Media Glass House and Mediocre Bytes, have lamented how long errors stay uncorrected online when it only takes a flurry of keystrokes to fix. Oh, and someone who’s interested enough in the platform’s reputation and image to spot the blooper, of course. We’ve always wanted a special gong for this particular area of media incompetence and for obvious reasons it’s restricted to our nation’s pitiful electronic mediocre.

Some of The Bug‘s senior people were involved in the community Brisbane hardcopy newspaper The Independent and on rare occasions when a really embarrassing mistake happened, running around the city with a tub of white-out and covering up that howler in thousands of printed copies proved very difficult.

And here it how our new electronic-mediocre award will most likely look!

Sadly, it will only be an annual award and the trophy will be perpetual as these things cost a pretty penny to make, even if the base is lead and the plate balsawood and both are painted in toy-hobby model gold paint!

This morning’s executive meeting lapsed through a lack of drinks in the meeting-room bar fridge so debate on a separate motion – that 9NOW be granted permanent naming rights to our new LOL plate – will resume soon. And can we at The Bug be frank as we always try to be? We can’t see anyone anytime soon beating the embarrassing FOUR FUCKING DAYS that this LAUGH-OUT-LOUD shit was LEFT-ON-LINE.
