NEW YORK: A red-faced and totally humiliated Anthony Albanese has bravely begun his United Nations address despite finding out just moments before that his desperately needed selfie with Donald Trump has proved as fake as the US president’s face colour and hairdo.
The Bug can reveal in a world exclusive that the person Albanese thought he was taking a picture with to, just maybe, get Australian media off his back was in fact the actor who does those Trivago advertisements.
The Bug can reveal the actor (whose name we can’t reveal because we don’t know it) was in the Big Apple with his teeth for a fresh commercial shoot and Secret Service agents cleverly hatched the selfie subterfuge as they were fully aware that President Trump was absolutely furious with Austria for disobeying his instructions to never, ever, recognise a Palestinian state.
The president’s security people were rightly convinced that the leader of the free world would not be able to control his rage and was likely to lash out physically at Albanese who is only half the president’s size but does love dogs.
It was when President Trump and FLOTUS Melania were left stuck holding hands at the bottom of an elevator vandalised on purpose by the UN that the doppelgänger deception was put into action and the actor was rushed into a side room for the Albanese selfie.
The Bug can also reveal that to compound his embarrassment over the incident, Albanese is furious with his team for not spotting the ring-in straight away.
An aide explained: “The PM was busy framing the shot and believes his people should have spotted the actor’s goatee, dripping orange face paint and the fake comb-over that clearly looked even sillier than normal if that’s at all possible.”
