Ley gets the climate message Right

CANBERRA: The federal Liberal and National parties believe Opposition Leader, Ssussan Ley, has now perfected her public statements on the coalition’s position on emission reduction targets to fight climate change.

A survey of key coalition figures by The Bug revealed that most had been alarmed after Mss Ley’ss stumble on Friday in which sshe told a news conference that the opposition did not support emission reduction targets, only to correct her comments soon after.

But the informal survey showed influential coalition figures were now satisfied with Mss Ley’ss position following a series of media interviews by her this morning (main picture) during which  sshe was again quizzed on her response to the Albanese Government’s emissions reduction target of 62.73% to 70.09% by 10.34am on 5 July 2025.

“Ssussan made a mistake on Friday but her interviews this morning show sshe’ss got the messaging spot on by committing to not zero by 3025,” said one senior coalition figure using Mss Ley’s preferred pronoun.

“I reckon sshe’ss now got it right… I mean Right and if sshe keeps it up we can skate through to the 2028 election and build on the swing we achieved in May this year,” the coalition MP said.

NEW YORK, NY: US President Donald Trump has refiled his defamation action against the New York Times after a federal judge threw out his original application.

US District Judge, Steven Merryday, yesterday struck out Trump’s complaint and gave the President’s lawyers 28 days to refile their lawsuit.

Judge Merryday criticised the length and detail of the 85-page application as a “decidedly improper and impermissible” effort by Trump to attack his adversaries.

He ordered the President’s lawyers to file a shorter and more specific replacement application which they have now done in the form of a short video showing President Trump saying: “I’m suing The New York Times for ….. $15 BILLION DOLLARS!” (below)

Judge Merryday is yet to rule on the new filing.

WASHINGTON DC: White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says she and President Trump will no longer be taking any questions suggesting that the administration is eroding freedom of speech in America.

“Any reporter who asks a question or publishes a story or comment that in any way alludes to an erosion of free speech will be banned from the White House press pool and will face the full force of the law via a very expensive defamation action from the President,” Ms Leavitt told reporters at a White House briefing. (below)

“Under the First Amendment to our Constitution the President is perfectly entitled to launch such an action which will bankrupt offenders, ruin their families, and send their employers to the wall – and not the one with Mexico.

You have all been warned,” she said. “We will do whatever it takes to protect the President’s First Amendment rights and that may also involve deportations via the Alligator Alcatraz for those of you who try to destroy those rights.”
