The column that has fun with the smaller mistakes and missteps of Australia’s mainstream mediocre; that pays homage to those sweet little fishes that individually don’t amount to a full meal but collectively can cause a tummy upset over the overall state of the once great and noble craft of journalism in this country.

Yes, once again, we know! PICKY! PICKY! PICKY! But that’s what Mediocre Bytes is sometimes … okay, okay! … often about. Can’t we be picky pricks every now and then?
And there’s no better example than this funny little mistake that online news site INDAILY made the other day on X (above and below) in promoting their news choices for the day.

The image above is a collage of the X blooper at top, and the image and opening words from the online story that had its journalistic hose … SORRY! … house very much in order.
The only other point we sometimes make is that while a print-media mistake might last forever unless it’s in The Courier-Mail and somehow gets covered over and flushed away, silly little mistakes in the virtual world could be corrected fairly promptly if anyone cared so to do!

Okay, another little one that happens far too often … mixing up reign and rein and its derivatives. Not the mainstream mediocre perhaps, but we still think Kayo/Fox Sports could do better.

Does blending rein with an attempt at reign make this almost forgivable?
Another reason for highlighting this silly little error? Pictured is Boomers and Tasmanian JackJumpers captain Will Magnay, Carol Campbell’s all-time favourite grandchild named Will. She and someone here at The Bug are immensely proud of his amazing achievements on and off a basketball court. An amazing athlete with great leadership and speaking skills and smart enough to mention his mother from time to time while nailing the latter.
