CANBERRA: The federal Labor Party is moving rapidly to head off a potential major embarrassment that could see the exposure of several “sleeper agents” it has placed within the ranks of its political opponents.
A Labor Party source who spoke on condition of anonymity said several undercover agents had been recruited by the party over several years and were now in positions of influence within the Liberal and National parties as well as affiliated parties such as the Liberal National Party in Queensland and the Liberal Country Party in the Northern Territory.
“We’ve worked too hard and too long over too many years to see our efforts go to waste,” the source said.
“The May election result showed how well this operation paid off for Labor, but in recent months and weeks we’ve seen small cracks start to appear in this ongoing top secret operation.
“Those cracks have the potential to blow our long-term undercover operation in serious jeopardy.”
The source said the big risk for Labor’s secret network of undercover operatives was overreach.
“This year’s federal election highlighted the dangers that arise when undercover operatives working for Labor in the opposition parties go too far,” the source said.
“I’m never going to name names, obviously, but I can give you some heavily doctored photos of just some of our operatives to prove my point.
“For instance one particular agent working for Labor (below) wouldn’t shut up about the danger posed to Australia by China and the result was a landslide of Chinese votes shifting to Labor MPs and candidates.

“But sadly that particular agent paid the ultimate price and is now useless to us.
“We’ve had several agents working for us in the National Party (below) to internally disrupt the opposition as much as possible when it comes to its climate change policies.

“They’re doing a fantastic job. We couldn’t be happier. But we know that many voters are starting to question the already paper-thin ‘logic’ of their arguments, so we’ve got to be careful how much we push them to continue their internal sabotage.
“Same goes for the special agent we’ve been rolling out recently to engage in the public debate in immigration. (below)

“Like the agent we lost in May, this one needs to be careful about how far they push the line about Indian migrants.
“We’re grateful for any Indian voters this agent sends our way by their public statements, but we’d hate to lose this very valuable agent from the parliament altogether in 2028. They’re doing such a great job for Labor,” the source said.
