Today I can report exclusively that police are examining an incident that has seen one of News Crap Australia’s prominent Righters, Gerard Henderson, admitted to a Sydney hospital after collapsing at work. (main picture)
NSW Police are considering whether further investigations could lead to charges being laid over an incident affecting Mr Henderson at the Surry Hills newsroom of the national broadshit The Australian.
An eyewitness told me that Mr Henderson was yesterday seen hunkered over one of the dozens of wireless and TV sets he personally installed in his office at The Australian that are permanently tuned to various ABC channels and which enable him to monitor the national broadcaster’s output 24/7. “I saw that Gerard was shaking, foaming at the mouth, and hurling loud and incoherent abuse at one of his TV sets – wildly accusing the ABC of being lefty, woke, radical gender neutral, antisemitic commies,” the eyewitness who chose to remain anonymous told me.
“That was pretty much normal for Gerard, and Play School was on at the time, so I took no notice of him. He behaves that way almost all day when he is researching one of the many anti-ABC columns he’s just written and filed.”
But the insider told me that it was what happened next that gave rise to concerns about Mr Henderson’s wellbeing.”
“A bike courier came into the newsroom and handed Gerard a rather large and important-looking envelope which Gerard opened. It turned out to contain an outsized birthday card,” the source said.
“Gerard read the message in the card to himself then called everyone in the newsroom together to excitedly explain that it was a card from ABC chair Kim Williams wishing Gerard well for his 80th birthday next Wednesday.
“Gerard then read aloud the handwritten message in the card from Williams in which he formally offered Gerard, as a birthday gift, the jobs of hosting a national ABC TV 7.00pm News as well as the nightly 7.30 program, its Sunday morning panel discussion show Insiders, as well as being the host of Radio National’s Breakfast program, and co-host of ABC TV’s daily News Breakfast alongside Peta Credlin.
“Gerard said Williams was also guaranteeing that Gerard would conduct all political interviews on any ABC TV or radio program anywhere in the nation and that Williams himself would stand down as ABC chair in Gerard’s favour if he agreed to the deal.
“In addition – and this got Gerard very emotional – he was to serve as ABC chair for life, or as Gerard said: ‘Just like Rupert doesn’t.’
“He was so excited and threw off his cardigan, kicked off his plaid slippers, and began dancing around the newsroom. But then someone else picked up and read the card.
“It was then that a litany of spelling mistakes was discovered in the birthday message, including the ABC chair’s own name ‘Kym’ instead of ‘Kim’, even ‘ABC’ was actually ‘ACB’ throughout the message, and ‘Peter Credlin’ was clearly wrong too.
“When these errors were pointed out to Gerard he just froze, let out a piercing wail, and collapsed in a heap. It was then that we called an ambulance.”
At last report Mr Henderson was resting somewhat uncomfortably in the Farr Wright Wing of St Vincent’s Hospital and was demanding more radio and TV sets be installed in his room.
I understand that police officers have seized the birthday card and are conducting forensic tests on it and the handwriting inside but they have so far found no clues as to its source.
