MEDIA NEWS:
A key staff member at the Murdoch media’s Sky News Australia has hit back at criticisms of one of the network’s biggest names.
Sky “after dark” presenter Sharri Markson has come under fire for the softball questions she lobbed at Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in a recent exclusive interview that followed the Albanese Government’s decision to join the majority of the world’s nations by recognising a Palestinian state. But chief cue card holder at Sky’s studios in Sydney, Jenna Syde, who was on duty during the interview (main picture) said the attacks on Ms Markson were unfair.
“I know some people have criticised Sharri’s interview for being shallow and for giving me… I mean Bibi an easy run,” Ms Syde said. “But those people are just being antisemitic.
“I know how much effort Sharri put into researching and formulating the questions she put to the PM.
“She did a hell of a lot of research by sitting down with noted Middle East experts such as Andrew Bolt, Paul Murray, Peta Credlin, Chris Kenny, and many others.
“All of that hard work enabled her to frame just the Right… I mean just the right questions.
“In doing so she definitely met the standards Sky News sets for its ‘after dark’ commentators.
“Did I mention that those who are criticising her and her interview are just antisemitic?” Ms Syde said.
Ms Syde said she had worked at Sky News since October 2023 and enjoyed her job “immensely”.
“It’s constant work but relatively easy because I’ve not had to write up any new cue cards since I started here,” she said.
“I just keep using the same ones over and over and everyone here is quite happy about it.
“Some outsiders have been critical of that approach but they are just being antisemitic,” Ms Syde said.
