BUG MEDIA AWARDS:

Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong (pictured above) has joined in the contest for The Bug’s Weasel Word for 2025 glory. 

This relatively new Bug category is open to both politicians and journalists and Wong’s name has been popped into the prize barrel for using the word “permanent” in her recent statement that Israel might be guilty of war crimes but only if it permanently displaces Gazans.

You know, like just about Israel’s entire cabinet has repeatedly claimed it wants to do, with the full support of Donald Trump. And that’s exactly what most clear-thinking and logical observers know is going to happen. But not Penny Wong.

Any fair-minded assessment of Wong’s thought processes over recent times, using all of her senses, would suggest there’s a very good chance she really does believe Benjamin Netanyahu is going to let Arabs run Gaza, that Michaelia Cash is pretty, that the Albanese government is centre-left, that Pauline Hanson and Ralph Babet sometimes make sense, and that the Trump/Putin carve-up of Ukraine will be fair to Zelensskyy and his people. And of all the politicians around the world calling for a two-state solution, our poor pet might be the only one who thinks that’s possible.

Wong appears keen to absolve Netanyahu of any war crimes because forcing a million citizens from one area to another and back again, killing many tens of thousands including 20,000 children in the process is sort of okay if it’s not permanent. 

We are not the experts in international law and what constitutes war crimes as zionophile Wong clearly thinks she is but it didn’t take us long to dig this up.

Now, we have no idea if this AI-produced definition is accurate – AI could stand for Always Inaccurate as far as we know – but even Wong’s attempt to tweak the meaning to favour Israel is a pile of stinking bullshit. If Wong could look at what’s happening over there with both eyes open instead of just her far-right one, she’d know that Palestinians are never, ever, going to be let back into Rafah in the Gaza Strip’s south. Ditto to Gaza City in the north.

The following doesn’t really fit this category but we must mention Wong’s recent statement there might soon be no Palestine left to recognise as a state. Penny! Hello! It’s already unrecognisable – has been for a year or more.

Maybe we need a As Blind As A Bat media/pollie award? Actually, we’ll get our trophy designers onto that straight away!
