Regrets? Israel Defence Forces has had a few.
But then again, those too few had harm to mention.
The above will soon make sense as Australia’s No1 family newszine launches yet another annual award that dishonours the very worst in politics and political reporting.
Sure, we are as proud as punch over our existing, long-standing awards such as our Media Arse-Licker of the month and the year and Beatup-of-the-Year trophies and our Joseph Goebbels Goblet.
But we’ve always felt a category was missing, namely one that celebrates devious attempts to defend vile acts by the repeated distorted use of totally inappropriate weasel words to try to mitigate any monstrous act that’s been committed.
So, let’s say hello to….

And we’ll repeat our top image to explain why our first entry – HARM – will almost definitely become the benchmark for end-of-year successful in this exciting new contest.

Over the years, the IDF has repeatedly distorted the meaning of the word “harm” to turn those four little letters all weaselly and distasteful.
The comment above came at the start of last week when a malfunctioning missile meant to take out a Hamas militant some metres away instead “harmed” to death at least eight Palestinians, most of them children, in central Gaza while apparently walking to collect water.
There’s more than just one weasel word here, right? There’s regret that the IDF does not in any way harbour, unless there was a larger group of Gazans around the corner their misguided missile could have harmed. And don’t you just love the use of the word “uninvolved”? If you’re lying in a number of body parts in a gutter near a water distribution point in the Nuseirat refugee camp, you’ve been involved.
And here’s one definition of “harm” to add to our belief that this entry will be hard to beat at year’s end.

The IDF is telling us it accidentally deliberately did something?
