Is it possible to put a monetary value on any damage done to Donald Trump’s reputation and standing? Or even to compensate him for hurt feelings?
These questions sprang to what’s left of my mind as I’ve tried to work out why Paramount in the US has agreed to pay $16 million ($A24 million) to settle a lawsuit by Trump over the editing of a CBS 60 Minutes interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris last October.
Trump’s lawyer apparently argued Trump had suffered “mental anguish” over the editing of the interview because it enhanced how Harris sounded.
Oh, the poor pet! Wins the election by what Trump called a record landslide margin and he still found time to suffer mental anguish. Paramount, who owns CBS, called Trump’s case “completely without merit” – others argued it was an attack on press freedom – and tried to have it dismissed before deciding to cough up. Trump originally demanded billions for the hurt and suffering caused.
But what I remain intrigued about – apart from observing a major American broadcaster clearly shit-scared about what damage a deranged, vindictive and vicious Trump might inflict on it – is how anyone could put a dollar figure on any damage done to Trump’s reputation and standing, considering what a truly vile piece of work he is. For mine, a peppercorn’s payment under absurdly narrow US defamation laws would be excessive.
How do you further damage a man who has 34 felony convictions?
Who is an adjudicated rapist?
Who boasted about grabbing pussies without invitation?
Who thought it was okay to give a microphone stalk a hand and head job at one of his election rallies? And mock a disabled reporter in another?
Who bores audiences shitless with lie-laden, lengthy “weaves” that have no real beginning or end?
Who used his one debate with Harris last year to accuse her of putting out to get ahead and who falsely accused illegal immigrants of eating cats and dogs, most likely after raping and murdering them, and all part of a relentless call to alarms for the country’s racists and misogynists.
Who attended Jeffrey Epstein’s parties overflowing with giggling underaged girls?
Who actively encouraged his MAGA morons to attack the capitol to try to prevent the certification of Joe Biden’s clear election win in 2021. And then pardoned almost all of them despite the deaths those rioters caused?
Who thinks Benjamin Netanyahu is a war hero?
Who laughs at the notion of immigration detainees fleeing what looks a helluva like Nazi death-camp barracks and having to zig and zag to try to avoid being eaten by voracious alligators if pythons haven’t got to them first. Who the fuck does that?
And here’s the big one for me…
Who it can reasonably be argued only achieved his narrow win last November by openly threatening, along with other GOP leaders, civil war and blood in streets across the Union if he didn’t reclaim the White House and that any loss by him would be another example of the rigged and corrupt election process that had robbed him once before? How many fearful voters went Trump’s way to avoid such a war that promised blood flowing in countless streets? And is it any wonder after such blackmail debauchery in a supposed democracy that the once-great United States is sinking into irrelevance through community division that now seems unsolvable.
So, how the fuck can you put a dollar figure on any possible damage done to someone with that history? And I’ve just listed some of Trump’s lowlights. A full listing in print form could create a world paper shortage.
And that’s ignoring the fairly widely held views that the cunt in general is a self-centred psychopathic, boastful, money-hungry, worker-hating, business-failing bully of limited IQ and even more limited knowledge despite his claims of being a stable genius who knows more about any subject under the sun than anyone else in the world.
So, I repeat: How the fuck can you put a dollar figure on any possible damage done to someone with that dreadful history? Any ideas, you BUGgers out there? Apart from a rotting, smelly peppercorn as mentioned above?
