White House holds fire on footage

MOSCOW: The Kremlin has denied involvement in a nationwide broadcast across America which observers say is aimed at undermining US President Donald Trump’s domestic support base.

The short address to the nation, supposedly featuring President Trump but widely believed to be an impersonator or AI-generated lookalike (main picture) broke into normal television programs across the United States last night.

In it “President Trump” rationalises his recent bombing strike on Iran as “a special military operation” and dismisses criticisms from within his own MAGA base that the action would lead to US involvement in another Middle East war.

The White House said it was examining footage of the broadcast but was not in a position to immediately rule it out as being fake.

“You know what the President’s like,” a spokesperson said. “This could well have been him. We rarely know what he’s saying or doing at any given time.”
