Anyone else out there in BUGland feeling mightily sorry for Mark Butler over his appearance on ABC News Breakfast this morning?
How he managed not to blush with the rubbish he must surely have heard coming out of his mouth is a remarkable achievement in itself.
Like Iran must do the right thing now and deescalate tensions in the Middle East through peaceful and diplomatic means after the US bombed the shit out of its nuclear facilities. Never mind that Iran was prepared to parley but only on the fairly reasonable condition that Israel stopped bombing the shit out of it.
Like refusing to answer Bridget Brennan’s repeated questioning as to whether the US actions were legal; instead pointing out that Australia fully supported what Uncle Sam did to ensure Iran can never make a nuclear bomb. (At least Butler refrained from the Anthony Albanese/Penny Wong line that the whole world wanted that!)
But here’s the real kicker that would have had a normal person blushing pillar-box red.
What, Brennan asked, did Butler think of Israel continuing to bomb the shit out of Iran and its capital, Tehran?
Butler may not have used the “Israel has the right to defend itself” line but gave the distinct impression he had no problem with that at all while Iran, whose nuclear facilities have been obliterated if you can believe anything that comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth and any bomb-making ambitions, if indeed they were ever held, had been blasted years into the future, must stay calm, peaceful and altogether reasonable and decent.
Oh, how the mighty – those at the top of the Albanese ministry – have fallen in their time in power as they continue to sprout Zionist propaganda lines. With nary a blush among the lot of them.
