Before we dig down to the core of today’s column, some quick questions. If Israel and the United States both declared they knew exactly where you were right now and were weighing up whether to take you out immediately or a bit later, would you be shitting liquid bricks? And a tad paranoid?
Don’t be embarrassed. Of course you would be. Even if you were hiding in a supposedly safe place deep under a mountain.
And that’s exactly how Iran’s supreme leader Ayatolla Ali Khamenei is feeling right now, according to a lengthy article by the ABC’s John Lyons.
We have no problem at all with Lyons and his assessments of international affairs. If only we could clone him and scatter lots of Lyons throughout Aunty, what an improvement that would be, seeing he’s one of the very few Australian journalists who’ve been able to clearly see what’s been happening in Gaza these past 20 months.

Okay, maybe one quibble. Lyons is possibly guessing the Ayatollah is paranoid as well as in hiding. No-one’s quoted to that effect.
But what the bitter, washed-up, old hacks who compile this column also quibble with is why the ABC staffer who created the on-line link to Lyon’s thorough analysis picked out the “paranoid and in hiding” line that doesn’t appear until 23 paragraphs in to a 35 paragraph think piece.
Makes the supreme religious nutter look a bit sooky, a bit cowardly, don’t you BUGgers agree?
Or let’s put it another way; were Ali Khamenei to be the world’s most powerful man with complete air supremacy over the United States and threatening to take out Donald Trump, would any western media lead with the Orange Oaf wracked with paranoia and in hiding filling his diaper in total fear?
The Donald would be depicted on the roof of the White House, shaking his fist and daring Iran to take him out, just like future Queen Mum Elizabeth taunted the Luftwaffe in WW2, whereas the sad reality would be Trump, like all bullies, would be deep in a shelter somewhere in the foetal position, sobbing uncontrollably and pointing to his bone spurs.
