Graham Norton meets Trump’s request

LONDON: Irish comedian Graham Norton (below) has confirmed that his TV chat show will be missing its popular “Big Red Chair” segment for the foreseeable future until a replacement chair can be sourced.

The chair is used by Norton on his Graham Norton Show to comically “eject” guests as they relate personal anecdotes.

But Norton confirmed today that the device had been rushed overnight to the Oval Office at the White House in Washington DC at the request of US President Donald Trump. (main picture)

“Following recent White House meetings between President Trump and his Ukrainian and South African counterparts, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Cyril Ramaphosa, we received an urgent request for him to have our chair installed in the Oval Office,” Norton explained.

“The President apparently feels our chair is exactly what he needs to ensure that high-level Oval Office meetings with world leaders are conducted in a manner befitting his standards of personal and political dialogue,” he said.

WASHINGTON DC: The US Air Force says it has established a special internal program to ensure the $400 million Boeing 747 aircraft gifted to President Donald Trump by Qatar can be transitioned into its presidential transport fleet.

“The USAF recognises that this issue has generated a lot of public debate but we will not be expressing any view about the rights or wrongs of the Commander in Chief accepting such a gift,” an Air Force spokesperson said.

“Our role is simply to integrate the new plane into our fleet and to do so we have established a new program to ensure that happens as quickly as possible and that we can upgrade the new Boeing and ensure it fits into our fleet and meets the standards expected of a USAF aircraft.”

The spokesperson said the new program, dubbed the Boeing Refurbishment Integration Benchmarking Exercise, would begin immediately.

SYDNEY: Former Liberal Party federal treasurer Joe Hockey says he hopes that the death this week of George Wendt, will not affect his own sideline business as an impersonator of the star of the hugely popular 1980s US TV sitcom Cheers.

Mr Hockey (pictured below with other members of his Cheers Tribute Troupe) said impersonating Wendt had been “a good little earner” for him over many years.

“I and the other Cheers Tribute Troupe impersonators will still be available for hire either individually or collectively for parties, weddings, or corporate events,” Mr Hockey said.

“George’s character Norm has always been a popular choice for those hiring our act and I hope that situation will continue despite his demise.”
