Rightwashing begins in earnest

The Liberal Party’s boutique and bespoke advertising agency, aka News Crap Australia, has wasted no time kickstarting a new three-year campaign to win back the voters its last three-year campaign helped turn away in droves from Peter Dutton and the bunch of right-wing born-to-rule non-entities the political hard man and remainder bin Donald Trump led over the electoral cliff.

Our Media Glass House researchers have noted that one of the ad agency’s senior creatives who works on the Liberal Party account full-time, Peta Credlin,  has started early to shape voters’ minds. (below)

Credlin’s latest ad for the Libs touted the party’s pick of new Opposition Leader Ssussan Ley to lead it to defeat in 2028 as a victory for “merit” and a lesson for those on the left (by that she means any Liberal not on the far right) seeking to impose quotas to lift the party’s very thin ranks of female MPs.

Credlin ignores the obvious fact that Liberal MPs rejected Ley’s rival Angus Taylor simply because he was a dud and he had shown he was a rolled-gold dud prior to and during the election campaign.

Quotas for female candidates in winnable seats obviously remain the kryptonite for the Liberal Party, if Credlin is to be believed.

Our MGH teams suggest the Labor Party will be praying that the Libs maintain their philosophical (read sexist) position.

On other right-wing fronts the Murdoch media has restarted a number of its culture wars – fights that, like Credlin’s favoured positions and policies, worked so well at the recent election (for Labor).

The ABC remains a target (below) and will continue to be a target as long as Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch remain above ground and view it as their right, or Right, to own and operate as a profit centre within their empire after, of course, ditching all the community services the national broadcaster currently delivers.

Another hobbyhorse of the Murdoch media, antisemitism, which it sees in every utterance by anyone who doesn’t back 100% or more the bloodthirsty, corrupt, genocidal actions of war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu in Gaza and beyond.

Ssussan Ley got the thumbs up for having changed her previously pro-Palestinian views and embracing the Netanyahu model.

So much for merit-based decisions, Ssussan.

As our MGH teams regularly exposed in the past three years, News Crap Australia spent the best part of the last federal parliamentary term running story after story after story about how great Dutton’s nuclear power plans would be for our nation.

There were regular articles in the Murdoch media’s metro turdbloids and its national broadshit The Australian quoting expert after expert on why we needed to go nuke.

One or two were even experts without a vested interest, but many pitching the Dutton plan and readily cited by the likes of The Oz were involved in the nuclear power industry, mainly in the US.

Some of those “experts” urging voters to adopt the small nuclear reactors Dutton was promoting had day jobs flogging those very same small nuclear reactors. So much for News’s news values.

Our MGH teams reckon the nuclear power policy may well make a comeback, certainly in the pages of The Oz, and may even survive the Coalition’s policy housecleaning given that the Nationals are apparently still full-bore behind it. With emphasis on bore. We’re looking at you Barnaby and Senator Canavan.

But most ominously, our MGH teams noticed a news story, that should be a News story, in The Australian during this week that essentially attacked the very concept of preferential voting. (below)

Our researchers viewed it as a rationalisation of Dutton’s defeat by pointing out how much better the Libs would have done in a first-past-the-post voting system.

It even bemoaned the fact that the apparently dreadful compulsory preferential voting system unfairly deprived us of Peter Dutton’s own talents in the new parliament and possibly beyond just because his primary vote was higher than the eventual winner of his Dickson seat, Labor’s Ali France..

So our MGH researchers have a message for The Bug reader. Keep an eye of The Oz and any of the Murdoch metro rags in coming months and years.

The would-be rulers of our nation who had no qualms about corrupting the public debate on the US voting system to cuddle up to Donald Trump and protect their personal and commercial interest will stop at nothing to enforce their far right agenda here.

If that means eroding trust in and destroying our current voting system and building momentum to change it to one that itself preferences their right-wing agenda, then they’ll be trying it on.
