Sad signs of the times

The column that has fun with the smaller mistakes and missteps of Australia’s mainstream mediocre; that pays homage to those sweet little fishes that individually don’t amount to a full meal but collectively can cause a tummy upset over the overall state of the once great and noble craft of journalism in this country.

Let’s kick off with a couple of post-election bloopers from our nation’s woeful mainstream mediocre.

The image below was snared off Nine News Queensland’s 6pm bulletin the other night. Can NSW Liberal Senator Dave Sharma sue for defamation for being branded a National? As far as we know, Sharma has never made obscenity-laden phone calls while lying supine and pissed as a parrot on a pavement. Nor has he smeared his face in coal dust and pretended to be a miner. He may be willing to go soft on the actions of genocidal Zionist war criminals but he clearly draws the line at being a fraudulent climate-change-denying buffoon.

Over at Aunty a few nights later, another dummkopf image compiler fucked up the day’s news, declaring that the Brisbane seat of Ryan had been a GAIN for The Greens’ Katherine Watson-Brown.

It was a RETAIN for The Greens. Watson-Brown GAINED the seat for the Greens at the 2022 poll. At least Jessica van Vonderen used the right words – reelected and retained.

So, we think you BUGgers out there will agree that …… Sorry! What? You want…

…. MORE!

Okay, here’s another one from the ABC online just the other morning.

No biggie, we admit, but surely the people at Aunty can get the first name of a future PM right?!

Some of you might also be wondering why missstakes sssuch ass thesssee are not upgraded to our more critical and far more ssserious ssssibling Media Glass House, (okay, enough of that sssilinessss) like we did the other day over Nine News’s Amanda Copp, their national affairs reporter Amanda Copp, making an absolute copp-up … sorry, cock-up .. as to who was still in contention to win the above-mentioned seat of Ryan? Link below.

It’s pretty simple really. Amanda’s mistake can be sheeted home directly to her as a journalist.

We’re probably fooling ourselves completely but we like to think that the errors in graphics and news straps as shown at top – and we could probably fill a daily Mediocre Bytes column with them alone, rather sadly – are compiled by people who are not only not journalists, but probably can’t even spell the word! Stupid on our part, probably, but it makes us feel better.
