CANBERRA: Acting Liberal Party leader Sussan Ley has begun the process of assessing the policy offerings Peter Dutton took to last Saturday’s election that led to its historic loss.
Ms Ley arrived at the federal Liberal Party secretariat at Menzies House in Canberra this morning (main picture) telling reporters that her priority was to assess the plan for seven nuclear power plants Dutton promised to impose on communities across the nation which he pointedly refused to visit during the five-week election campaign.
A Liberal Party spokesperson said all possible precautions had been made to ensure Ms Ley’s personal safety during her assessment.
“We realise now that the nuclear power policy itself is extremely toxic,” the spokesperson said.
“Who’d have thought it, hey? I mean all the media, and by that I mean the Murdoch media, was 100 per cent behind the policy.
“Every story I read in The Australian and any of News Crap Australia’s metro daily turdbloids since Peter revealed the policy said how great his idea was and how our country needed nuclear power.
“Now, admittedly a lot of those stories were based on the comments of people in the nuclear power industry who made or sold the small nuclear reactors Peter was promising to build. But they were still entitled to have their say even if they stood to make squillions out of the policy.”
The spokesperson said a special hazmat suit had been purchased “at great expense” and provided to Ms Ley for her work examining the nuclear power policy.
“The user manual that came with the suit says we need to seal it in a special container after Sussan is finished with it and then bury that container somewhere geologically stable for a couple of thousand years,” the spokesperson said.
“Unfortunately that means we’ll need to shell out for a few more hazmat suits when Sussan starts examining our working-from-home policy and Peter’s ideas of establishing a Department of Government Efficiency and decimating public servant numbers in Canberra through natural aggression,” the spokesperson said.
