Dutton denies desperation

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has rejected suggestions that he is now scrambling to attract votes in a desperate bid to compensate for the numerous diversions that have hit the federal election campaign.

Mr Dutton also denied that his decision to hold back many details of his policy promises had now backfired with the Pope’s death, funeral, and selection of a new Pope diverting public and media attention from political issues on top of lulls in campaign activity over the Easter break and on Anzac Day this Friday.

“I reject suggestions that I’m now desperate to win any votes including the votes of Australian Catholics who are undoubtedly looking for strong leadership and nuclear power following the death of our beloved Holy Father,” he said after recording a video tribute to the late Pope Francis last night (main image.)
