An area twice the size of Victoria is under record floods in south-western Queensland right now. Towns are under water, countless homes and businesses inundated, stock losses are well over 100,000 and will go much higher, farm sheds, machinery, fences and internal property roads are ruined. Primary producers will take decades to recover.

So what did Nine News Queensland kick off with last night?

The death of Val fucking Kilmer! Is someone – anyone? – going to be shown the door at Channel 9 over this shameful, totally muddled and absurd lack of news sense. Well, just sense generally, really.

Newsreader Melissa Downes kicked things off: “A Hollywood heartthrob dead at 65. Tonight we celebrate Val Kilmer’s life.”

We then have some minutes devoted to Kilmer’s acting career. And it was impressive, to be fair as The Bug always is.

But leading with Val fucking Kilmer! The Hollywood has-been who has been battling cancer for a long, long, time. Sad to see him go so young but, really, Nine News Queensland? What the fuck were you thinking? Hang your collective heads in shame.

And what’s with almost everyone in the mainstream mediocre ignoring last Friday as the first day of the campaign?

ABC last Saturday declared that day the start of the campaign. Most other media have done the same.

This morning the co-presenter on ABC News Breakfast called today (Thursday) the sixth day of the campaign.

We at The Bug are counting last Friday as day one. Our other post today is reviewing yesterday’s (Wednesday’s) activities on the hustings as day six. Today is day seven. Why? Because it’s accurate and logical. Professional journalism being followed.

Albanese’s ComCar probably had its lights still on during the trip to get the Governor-General to dissolve Parliament so early last Friday. He and Dutton had their opening sprays soon after. They were then on the road campaigning. That makes last Friday DAY ONE!

Maybe the MSM might be excused if they said Saturday was the first full day of campaigning! Perhaps one or two did?

Nah, fuck it! Why give this nation’s woeful, biased and unprofessional media any credit whatsoever? They don’t deserve it.
