Albo by two lengths

….maybe a bit shorter

Only Australia’s No1 family newszine The Bug will keep you up-to-speed with each and every day of the campaign though the cutting-edge analysis of our in-house political experts, how the mainstream mediocre is behaving and a close watch on poll trends and betting markets.

DAY FIVE: TUESDAY APRIL 1

And our assessment of Day Five, Tuesday April 1? Anthony Albanese by a couple of lengths. Sort of.

We can’t claim, being too far away, to decide who won on the two major parties’ offerings on rail projects in Melbourne but overall, Labor still had plenty of fun with Peter Dutton’s brainfade announcement that he’d live in his favourite city and favourite harbourside mansion were he to become PM.

We believe that gaffe – and the MSM would have painted it that way if Albanese had said it – is incredibly damaging, almost as much as the LNP’s unthought-out energy policies.

We also marked down Dutton over his stumbles over what should be taught in schools and his ongoing anti-woke bullshit. If the Opposition Leader is trying to start distancing himself from Donald Trump, he’s doing a bad job of it.

And nothing Dutton and Co. are saying or doing suggests they have any real hope of regaining Teal seats.

And the no-change-in-interest-rates surprised next to nobody, so not much for either major party to score points on there.

And here are the online betting company markets from late yesterday (Tuesday):

Sportsbet: Labor $1.72 Coalition $2.10
Ladbrokes: Labor $1.70 Coalition $2.10
TAB: Labor $1.65 Coalition $2.20
bet365: Labor $1.72 Coalition $2.20.

And here are the two-party preferred averages of the four current opinion polls we’ve had time to snare for today’s report – Newspoll, Resolve, Roy Morgan and YouGov.

Labor: 51.25; Coalition 48.75

And finally, let’s conclude our look at Day Five by handing out our daily gong for…..

…. and the winner is Sky LNPNews host, sit-down comedienne and LNP publicity officer Sharri Markson for this effort yesterday.

Sharri, we at The Bug don’t give a flying fuck what you call yourself but never, ever, ever, again call yourself a journalist. It’s insulting to journalism and journalists.

The grim reality is that if Scott Morrison had won the 2022 election and had the Albanese government’s economic record over the past three years, you – and sadly just about everyone else in the mainstream mediocre – would be raising the rafters with your raucous praise.
