The Bug is proud to launch a brand-new award for politicians of all colours to compete for over the next five weeks of the federal election campaign: the Gobbels Goblet!

This fool’s-gold-coated lead-based trophy (above) will be awarded shortly after May 3 to the candidate who best mimics the infamous Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels’ two basic principles: tell a lie enough times and it becomes the truth, and accuse your opponents of that which you yourself are guilty of.

And our judges are proud to announce our first contender who has just been tipped into our Goebbels Goblet prize barrel; none other than Opposition Leader Peter Dutton!

They’ve been blown away by Dutton’s claim yesterday that Anthony Albanese has been “completely obsessed” with the Voice referendum since its defeat 18 month ago!

What a mighty effort from Dutton! Apart from painting a picture of Albanese as being incapable of leadership and unable to devote his mind and time to any ongoing political issue, it reminded the racists in our midst of that racist and divisive Voice proposal of his! Brilliant, right?

It also ticked both general themes of Goebblian strategy. It was clearly a lie, and worse than that, the only side of politics that has been obsessed with the Voice outcome ever since October 2023 has been the LNP which has continued to inflict maximum damage on Albanese and boost the Opposition’s standings, all with the uncritical help of just about the entire Australian mainstream mediocre. Goebbels might be beaming with pride in his watery grave right now.

It’s so good that our judges are a little worried that the Goebbel Goblet is already safely in Dutton’s hands and no other pollie will strive to win it! Some of our judges believe it should be inscribed right now!
