As the mainstream mediocre waits impatiently to beat up to Billy-O the Anthony Albanese “gaffe” that will “end his hopes of a second term!” let’s look at another shameless LNP plug from Nine News Queensland last night.
Take it away, Melissa Downes: “A fierce fight looms for the Prime Minister; throughout his last term, he suffered fallout from the failed Voice referendum and ….” Are you BUGgers out there sitting down or holding onto something? …”and inflation has soared”.
AND INFLATION HAS SOARED.
Now, the bitter, washed-up, old hacks who compile this column are not blaming Downes for reading out that absolutely putrid piece of pro-LNP political bullshit – we kinda feel sorry for her really – but is whoever penned those words going to be booted permanently out the Nine studios door?
That was a rhetorical question by the way. Whoever penned that is probably up for a bonus.
Anyone with any real interest in politics generally and knows the basics of how Labor has performed these past three years, Albanese and his team started their term in 2022 with inflation at about 6.1 per cent. It went up to 6.8 percent briefly but when Parliament was dissolved yesterday the nation’s inflation rate was sitting at 2.4 per cent. If that’s soaring, the MGH would hate to see something in free-fall!
Perhaps Downes in making that comment knew how wrong it was? Was it her own application to join the LNP publicist hosts at Sky LNPNews or to switch across to radio as a Nine Entertainment Co. LNP publicist shock jock?
If not, and if the MGH were Melissa Downes, we’d be angrily seeking a grovelling apology from whoever made her read that out.

Seeing Downes in her to-camera piece above mentioned how Albanese suffered “fallout from the failed Voice referendum”, let’s roll 9’s news tape just seconds later and hear from Andrew Probyn!
Probyn starts with his view that Albanese’s election-night promise of a Voice referendum would “capture his government for the next 18 months” and that the Voice campaign “lacked a critical ingredient – bipartisanship”.
Much of the rest of Probyn’s report was very LNP sympathetic: Albanese had “squandered political capital as well as the referendum’s $411 million cost” – but wait, there’s more! – “at a time households were being squeezed by falling standards of living”.
Dutton was then allowed some to-camera time to claim that Albanese has been “completely obsessed” by the Voice in the 18 months since.
Probyn also felt the need to add that “inflation has been public enemy Number One for much of this term” and managed to squeeze in the fact that the Reserve Bank had ordered “nine consecutive interest rate hikes” during Labor’s term
Probyn, like just about every MSM politics scribe since October 2023, has completely ignored the fact that the PM was honouring an election promise to hold that referendum and that when that process was put in train, polls had good support for the Voice proposal around the country and Albanese thought – silly bugger! – that he had LNP support for that referendum before the National and then the Liberals opposed the idea for political tactical reasons. The LNP ever since, with almost unanimous MSM support, has strived to inflict the maximum damage possible on Albanese over his decision to honour an election promise. Silly bugger. If he had scrapped the referendum there and then, the MSM would have then bashed him mercilessly for being gutless and afraid of Dutton.
Probyn’s one-sided piece simply continues that trend of putting the LNP in the best possible light on a number of fronts.
The Bug remains saddened by the reality that there was not one MSM journalism during the Voice campaign or in all those months since who could have made a name for themselves by challenging Dutton to sit down and explain why he supported every racist, divisive argument put forward by the anti-Voice spokespeople.
