Just hours before his budget reply speech tonight, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has denied that he has run out of policy ideas by offering voters a temporary cut in fuel excise instead of matching or bettering Labor’s permanent income tax cuts.
“It’s ridiculous to suggest I’ve got no new ideas,” Mr Dutton said on a flying visit to a Melbourne hair salon where he washed a customer’s hair for the cameras. (main picture)
“My fuel tax cut is a direct response to the Albanese Government’s woke plans to force Aussie drivers into electric vehicles,” he said.
“The Albanese Government wants to end the weekend. We all know that an electric vehicle won’t tow your trailer. It’s not going to tow your boat. It’s not going to get you out to your favourite camping spot with your family.”
In jocular remarks at the salon aimed at softening his “hard man” image ahead of the May election he said he was unaccustomed to washing hair given his own lack of it.
“What’s more I don’t hold a hose, mate,” he added while attempting to smile but instead merely baring his teeth.
