Netanyahu stands firm

TEL AVIV: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defended his decision to end the ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza in order to extend the ceasefire.

Mr Netanyahu said he had no doubts about the ultimate effectiveness of his order to renew deadly genocidal bombardments of Palestinian civilians which have already taken an estimated 400 lives, mainly innocent women and children.

“I have been very clear about my motives to ensure the future security of the Riviera… I mean Gaza,” he said.

“I am determined to eliminate anyone with any connection to terra in Gaza.”

CANBERRA: Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has moved to settle concerns within the Liberal Party over his idea for a referendum to amend the Constitution to give a federal government powers to strip Australian citizenship from and deport criminals with dual citizenship.

In an online meeting Mr Dutton told Liberal MPs they should support his plan because it was an issue that would naturally be supported by Coalition voters at the federal election.

“I will continue to tell our voters that as prime minister I will be ready and willing not only to initiate a referendum on this issue but also to lead the ‘no’ case against it,” Mr Dutton (below) told MPs.

“I’ve got the runs on the board from the Voice campaign, and given the type of people we’ll be deporting I see no reason I can’t repeat that result and ensure that come polling day we hold on to all the white wing voters that backed my stand back in October 2023.”

WASHINGTON, DC: The White House has moved to deflect criticisms that Russian leader Vladimir Putin came out ahead in his phone call with US President Donald Trump (below) over plans to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump’s spokesperson Karoline Leavitt told a White House press pool briefing that the US President “definitely had the upper hand” in the call.

“This was a 90-minute call, with more than 80 minutes of that being an argument between the two leaders over who would hang up first,” Ms Leavitt said.

“President Trump definitely showed the calibre of his deal-making by having President Putin hang up first.”
