Shoppers shitty on shortages

CONSUMER AFFAIRS:

A Brisbane man says supermarkets and other retailers “must do better” when it comes to stocking adequate supplies of basic consumer needs before and after natural disasters such as Cyclone Alfred.

Arnold Snerd of Geebung said he was disgusted when he ventured out to his local supermarket to buy laxatives and found only a solitary box on the usually well-stocked shelves. (main picture)

“In the days before Cyclone Alfred me and the missus went shopping and naturally we bought as much toilet paper as we could jam into the Commodore wagon,” Mr Snerd said.

“But when we got home I discovered we still had about 400 rolls of the stuff from when we stocked up during the COVID crisis.

“We didn’t want to take either the old stock or the new rolls we had just bought back to the store, so we decided that we’d set to and use it up.

“The wife’s doing her bit by whipping up some vindaloos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and we’ve been playing a lot of Donald Trump videos.

“To speed things up I thought I’d buy a few hundred boxes of laxatives.

“But when I got to the shops this morning it was obvious that others had the same idea and I could find only one box of the stuff.

“I really think retailers need to be more responsible and make sure that they have adequate supplies of the essentials people like me and the wife need in times of crisis.

“They’ve caused me a lot of inconvenience for no good reason,” Mr Snerd said.
