In a bid to build support in the lead-up to the federal election, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has addressed the possibility of US President Donald Trump imposing tariffs on Australian goods and services exported to the USA.
Speaking during a photo opportunity visit to a Bunnings Warehouse in Canberra, Mr Albanese said in the event of US tariffs being applied to Australian exports he would lead a campaign to boycott US-made goods and instead have consumers purchase only goods manufactured in Australia.
“In such circumstances I’d want to see Aussie-made goods like this…,” he told reporters before his voice trailed off as he desperately searched multiple shelves in several aisles seeking a locally produced item.
Quickly discovering that almost everything in Bunnings is made in China and there are fuck-all American products that he could whack tariffs on anyway were that another option, the Prime Minister abandoned his search and called an end to the news conference, saying he needed to leave immediately to attend an emergency briefing on Cyclone Alfred.
After leaving the warehouse he and his aides and bodyguards then spent several more minutes searching for his official C-1 vehicle which was hidden from view by huge US-made SUV trucks in the car park.

The Murdoch media’s Sky News is defending its coverage of Cyclone Alfred as the potentially destructive weather system heads to the South East Queensland coast.
In identical remarks on all programs in Sky’s “after dark” line-up last night – The Kenny Report, Credlin, The Bolt Report, Sharri, Paul Murray Live, The Late Debate, and The Rita Panahi Show – presenters Chris Kenny, Peta Credlin, Andrew Bolt, Sharri Markson, Paul Murray, Caleb Bond, and Rita Panahi unanimously blamed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his Labor Party government for the slow pace of the cyclone.
The presenters all told their viewer that Cyclone Alfred had taken an erratic path, had slowed, and the time it was expected to cross the coast had been pushed out several times, but under a decisive Peter Dutton government it would have already crossed the coast and done its damage.
“I see nothing wrong with the remarks by our presenters,” said Sky News CEO Paul Whittaker. “All the evidence shows that they’re Right as usual.”

Budget carrier Jetstar says unlike other airlines it is totally unaffected by the impacts of Cyclone Alfred.
“It really is business as usual for us,” a Jetstar spokesperson said.
“We’ve had no need to cancel or massively delay any more flights than we usually do, which is pretty much all of them.”
