Emergency surgery for Albanese

CANBERRA: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was rushed to Canberra Hospital this morning to undergo emergency surgery after collapsing at his news conference at Parliament House.

A spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office said surgeons performed an operation to repair an injury described as a bilateral schisma.

“The PM sustained the injury when asked by a reporter if he agreed with a Coalition proposal that Scott Morrison, Joe Hockey, and Malcolm Turnbull (main picture) should be sent to Washington DC to bring their respective talents to Australia’s efforts to respond to US President Donald Trump’s plans to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium imports,” the spokesperson said.

“In response the PM laughed so hard that he sustained the bilateral schisma – in everyday terms, both his sides split – which obviously necessitated immediate surgical intervention.

“He wants to thanks the staff at Canberra Hospital for their efforts to fix what, if left untreated, may have been a life-threatening condition.

“The PM is now out of theatre and has been taken to a ward where he is doing well. (below)

“He should be back at work by tomorrow, although doctors have urged him to take things easy for a day or two while his stitches heal,” the spokesperson said.
