Musk solves Meta’s problem

SOCIAL MEDIA:

MENLO PARK, CA: Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of the Meta technology conglomerate, says the company is working on a fix recommended by Elon Musk for a problem confronting users of its Facebook social networking platform.

Since Zuckerberg (below) announced a lowering of standards for fact-checking on Facebook, millions of people around the world have complained about being hit in the face by human excrement emerging at rapid speed from their computers or hand-held devices when using their accounts. (main picture)

At the time of US President Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, Zuckerberg personally announced that Meta was cutting its third-party fact-checkers and would instead implement a system of user-based community notes as used on the social media message system X, formerly Twitter, owned by Trump lieutenant Elon Musk.

“We knew there could be some slightly negative issues arise when we took the decision to lower fact-checking standards on Facebook,” Zuckerberg said.

“The previous level of shit being thrown around online appears to have escalated, well at least enough to manifest itself in physical form, even on a digital system.”

Mr Zuckerberg rejected suggestions that adopting X-style fact-checking, which many observers believe was a way to ingratiate himself with President Trump, had been a mistake.

“Elon recommended to me his fact-checking system, or left-checking as he calls it, and he said I’d have no problem with it,” Zuckerberg said.

“When I said I’d be interested to see how it worked in practice, he repeated very slowly and sternly that if I knew what was good for me I would have no problem with it. So I guess I don’t.

“He has also recommended a solution to the shit spraying problem which involves tweaking the algorithm we use to handle complaints.

“He guaranteed me that, like X, we’ll soon have no complaints about anything,” he said.
