FEDERAL POLITICS/THE FOURTH ESTATE:
Insiders host David Speers remains steadfast in his belief that he posed “the questions that were long overdue and needed to be asked” despite the fact they sparked a furious Opposition Leader Peter Dutton to storm out of their interview on Sunday morning.
“If Dutton ever comes back on the program he’ll cop the same questions,” an unrepentant Speers told The Bug earlier today.

“The bulk of the mainstream media – and that sadly includes some of my colleagues here at the ABC – has given his bullshit and lies a dream run and I simply decided that enough of ‘Peter Dutton says!’ was enough.”

Dutton ripped off his microphone and stormed out of their video interview from the ABC’s Sydney studios after becoming increasingly agitated and then clearly visibly angry at Speers’ line of attack.
The Insiders host began by asking Dutton: “Surely the surge of anti-Semitic attacks around Australia can be sheeted home to Israel’s 15-month long genocide in Gaza?”

Dutton’s reply that began with “Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been very weak on this issue and that’s what’s caused the rise in anti-Semitism. The government I lead..” was promptly cut off by Speers.
“I think Australian voters are becoming increasingly upset by your never-ending personal attacks on Albanese’s character. Ever thought of playing the ball and not the man?”

A red-faced Dutton replied: It’s been Albanese’s weakness in not unconditionally supporting Israel’s right to defend itself…
Speers: “If you wanted to talk about weakness, let’s revisit the Voice referendum for a bit?
Dutton: “Always happy to, seeing Albanese’s decision to go ahead with that racist and divisive referendum very much weakened him politically, as I and the mainstream media have been pointing out ever since.”
Speers: Did you agree wholeheartedly with the nonsense that the No campaign ran with?”

Dutton: “Absolutely. Anthony Albanese is a very weak leader who wasted…
Speers: “You totally agreed with the racist and divisive bullshit that white people weren’t being offered the same thing First Nations people were being offered?

Dutton: “Albanese is a weak person…
Speers: You do appreciate that people who hashtag whitelivesmattertoo or alllivesmatter in response to #blacklivesmatter are brain-dead moronic racists…
Dutton: Let’s leave Tony Abbott out of this!
Speers: “… who are totally ignorant of, or ignore the fact, that First Nations people lag well behind in many of life’s crucial markers? The never-shrinking gap?

Dutton: “It was Albanese’s weakness that…
Speers: “Isn’t it a fact that you were pretty weak in keeping your head pretty much down while your No campaigners pushed the racist and divisive notion that Albanese preferred to kick up red dust with his Aboriginal mates than address the cost-of-living crises afflicting whities in the outer suburbs?”

Dutton: “This really is old ground and you need to give me plenty of ABC airtime to talk about how weak Albanese is and how only a coalition government can bring down inflation that’s spiralling out of control…”
Speers: “And on the rare occasion you popped your head up during that Voice campaign it was only to shout “If you don’t know, vote no”. Wasn’t that being as weak as piss?”

It was at this point that Dutton unclipped his microphone and stormed out of the ABC’s Sydney studios, vowing never to return.
Speers told The Bug: “I make no apologies for revisiting the Voice poll. I have become increasingly angry over time the way the mainstream media favoured the racist and divisive No side back then and still now. I’m proud of the fact that while this might be a few years too late, I’m the first journalist in Oz who has at least tried to pin down Dutton on that disgusting, racist and divisive No campaign! I’m just so proud to be showing my SkyNews days are now well behind me!

“I was bitterly disappointed with his hissy-fit and walkout as I had also intended to revisit the Israeli genocide in Gaza and ask Peter why his side of politics is even more Zionist than Labor.
“I also wanted to point out that many Jewish people aren’t Zionists either and many are also appalled at the tactics used in Gaza, so he’s not presenting an honest picture – surprise, surprise!”

“In 2021, the Jewish population of Australia was 0.46% yet Peter especially seems to be in thrall of just a section of this very small group who wail about how awful the world has treated them over the centuries and yet now think it’s fine that the Jewish state of Israel has just about razed the entire Gaza strip and killed many tens of thousands of innocent people – mostly women and children – just to overcome a shitty little ragtag army of 20,000 hiding in tunnels with fuck-all weapons.
“And I’m fucking sick of all these claims of anti-Semitism if anyone criticises what Israel has done in Gaza and my guess is you are too? I’ve had it up to here – I’m tapping my head – with Dutton. What a fucking awful cunt, hey?

“On reflection, you’d better not use that last bit.”
The Bug: Sure.
