Nasty prank costs journo jobs!

MEDIA NEWS:

Dozens of senior production jobs at News Corp Australia mastheads around the country have been lost, courtesy of a cruel prank played on Rupert Murdoch in New York.

While the most powerful media baron in world history was taking his morning nap yesterday (US time), the prankster hacked into the former Austraian’s email feed and sent a message to dozens of senior editors around Australia, (early last night, AEDT) ordering them to give full coverage to News International’s humiliating $A20 million loss to Prince Harry in a London court, including grovelling written apologies and admissions of illegal hacking of the phones of the Prince and others by private investigators hired by journalists at Murdoch’s British mastheads.

The email read: “Go hard on this one, especially on me as News head honcho. The buck stops with me and I’m disgusted by what both I and my mastheads in Britain have gotten up to and we must make sure that getting caught never happens again!”

The Bug understands that it was only when Murdoch woke from his mid-morning nap (once again, US time) for his regular midday Viagra injections and light lunch that he saw the way papers such as The Herald-Sun, The Daily Telegraph and The Courier-Mail had handled the court outcome overnight.

What perhaps made him most livid was the way his pet project and chief money-loser The Australian had run with the story (below).

.
He immediately ordered the sacking of any production person in Australia who played any part in running details of the negotiated, out of court, settlement in London.

“Rupert was beside himself with anger when he saw what his Australian papers had done,” a spokesperson told The Bug.

“He couldn’t believe his senior people could have been so gullible as to believe the fake email was from him.

“Rupert has never, ever, directly told his newspaper executives and production people in Australia – or anywhere for that matter – how to deal with any issue. They’d always known instinctively what’s been by far the Right thing to do.”
