C’mon 2025! You can do it!

THE NEW YEAR:

As the year 2024 ebbs away The Bug remembers those we tragically didn’t lose in the past 12 months.

Our review of those who would make the world a better place by leaving it as soon as possible is done with all due respect and while we do not wish deliberate harm on any individual, we acknowledge that there still walk the earth some who would make life better for all by being under it.

Top of our list and no doubt the list of many others around the globe is US President-elect Donald Trump.

The year played a cruel last-minute trick on the world by having time run out on the long and fruitful life of another former President, the remarkable and respected Jimmy Carter, while continuing to keep Trump tragically alive.

The 39th one-term President will lie in state next week while the 45th and 47th who never deserved even one term will lie in the Oval Office again continuously for the next four years unless fate intervenes real soon.

Our desire to see that situation change is tempered only by the fact that JD Vance is Vice-President-elect.

Sadly we did not lose Russian President and bloodthirsty warmonger, Vladimir Putin, in 2024.

His overly ambitious egotistical plans to send ill-prepared young troops to certain death in great numbers in the Ukraine war and entrust their short lives to commanders too drunk or incompetent to literally shoot straight must surely be sufficient to see him in a niche behind a brass plaque in the Kremlin wall very soon in the coming year.

Likewise, genocidal maniac and blatant war criminal, Benjamin Netanyahu, continues to live and breathe thanks in large part to the unquestioned profit-driven backing of the US military-industrial complex which these days encompasses the White House.

We can only hope that in 2025 he joins the close to 50,000 souls he has so callously written off through mass murder dismissed as collateral damage.

Finally, Trump and Netanyahu enabler and profiteer, the far right-wing Rupert Murdoch continues to defy the odds at age 115 (Subs: Check his age please before publication.) but also continues to prove the adage that only the good die young.

His lifelong work putting personal profit ahead of democracy and human rights must surely reap its own inevitable reward in the coming year.

Although a US citizen for almost half of his life – more proof if needed of his desire to put profit ahead of all else – The Bug suggests that his demise deserves the declaration of a public holiday in the land of his birth.
