Andrew tops King’s to-do list

If His Majesty King Charles III is making any new year resolutions one might suggest that finding a way to deal with one of his close relations may be at or near the top of his list.

It is no secret among the very royal circles in which I move that the King and his brother the Duke of York Prince Andrew are not on speaking terms following a series of scandals involving the younger sibling.

“To be quite frank, His Majesty is simply suspicious of just about everything Prince Andrew does,” one Buckingham Palace courtier told me.

“If the Jeffry Epstein scandal wasn’t enough, followed by Prince Andrew’s disastrous TV interview that only dug that hole deeper, the recent revelations that he was palling around with a Chinese spy is the straw that broke the camel’s back.

“The suspicion that His Majesty harbours about the Duke is returned in spades, with Prince Andrew now very much paranoid about everything his older brother and Monarch says or does,” my source confided in me.

“Since the Chinese chappy’s links with the Duke were exposed, Prince Andrew has been keeping a close eye on everything his older brother says or does but luckily the public has so far not noticed anything untoward. (below)

I am told that the Duke was even reputed to be worried that the King might make mention of him in his pre-recorded Christmas Day address and is believed to have kept a close eye on His Majesty’s rehearsals and the final recording just in case. Thankfully the Duke’s machinations went undetected in the final broadcast. (main picture)

But I understand Prince Andrew – officially a non-starter for  the Royal family’s traditional attendance at post-Christmas church services at Sandringham – was even worried about what King Charles might say or do at that event too.

Again, thankfully the Duke’s paranoia did not impede the event on the day. (below)

At the heart of Prince Andrew’s paranoia is a belief that the King may punish him further by cutting off all royal privileges and payments.

As one royal source put it to me: “The Duke is very concerned about being cut off entirely from the royal lifestyle and continues to sweat – quite literally and profusely – on every appearance and every utterance the King makes.”
