…not from Sunbeam anyway!

It would seem that Sunbeam Australia is a little embarrassed about where its latest compact barista espresso machine (at top) is made.

I asked all my underlings at The Bug‘s consumer protection affairs investigative pod on the mezzanine level of our HQ to cast our collective eyes forensically over the box our new machine came in. And we’re buggered if we can find the Made in China notification most if not all Australians now expect to see on every thing they buy for inside and outside their homes…. or offices … or anywhere fucking else for that matter.

This caused us a certain degree of consternation on Sunbeam’s behalf because it’s kinda Australian law to have such formation printed on the packaging of such imported goods.

So maybe this new product was made in Geelong or Newcastle or Brisbane and Sunbeam simply forgot to have that printed on the carton?

So we googled “where is Sunbeam’s new compact barista espresso machine made?” and you could have knocked us all down with just the one well-aimed feather when it came back with China!

Was Sunbeam concerned that potential buyers might doubt the quality of this machine if they knew where it came from? A bit racist? And a very old fashioned notion about the quality of stuff made in the People’s Republic, wouldn’t you think? It used to be Japanese crap that needed to be avoided, right?

To be fair to Sunbeam, one of my over-paid underlings thinks he read somewhere – and we accept he might need to go to Specsavers – that this compact barista espresso machine was “designed and engineered in Australia”. And we as Australians can, at the very least, be proud of that fact. It’s not all your own way, you commie bully Xi Jinping!!!

Editor’s note: Yes, it’s true that we at The Bug got sick of – nay, embarrassed by – only having bogun dust – even though it was Moccona! – to offer those who come in with their news tips that have made us world famous on a daily basis. And better still, a week in, our Sunbeam compact barista espresso machine is still working!

FOUND IT! Sunbeam’s “designed and engineered in Australia” boast, albeit for a different compact barista expresso machine model! Anyone want to guess where this one was made?
