Trump reveals his time czar

WASHINGTON, DC: While many of US President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed cabinet appointments have raised concerns about their suitability and qualifications, some political observers suggest his latest pick may prompt even some in his own party to raise questions about Trump’s own judgement.

Mr Trump this weekend used social media to declare he would scrap daylight saving across the United States. (below)

He followed up with a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago base in Florida where he announced his plan to appoint “former US Vice-President” Jonah Ryan (main picture) to head an Anti-Daylight Saving Task Force.

“Jonah Ryan is my own time person of the year,” Mr Trump joked when beginning his remarks.

“He had a distinguished career as Vice-President under President Selina Meyer and prior to that, as a Congressman from New Hampshire, he campaigned relentlessly to end daylight saving – without the ‘s’.

“So he is the perfect person to head up my special task force that will, as Jonah himself puts it, end our long national nightmare and daymare.”

When reminded of the fact that Ryan had quit the vice-presidency after being impeached, Mr Trump said he did not see that as an impediment to his appointment.

“I’ve been impeached too, remember? In fact I’ve been impeached more times than Al Capone,” he said.

Despite the unorthodox selection and concerns expressed by some political analysts, all senior congressional Republicans backed Mr Trump’s choice with Speaker Mike Johnson  saying it showed the President-elect’s “political and administrative brilliance” and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham calling it “sheer genius” while promising to expedite the Senate’s approval of Ryan.
