Rupert skips mosque visits

HYPOCRISY:

American media mogul Rupert Murdoch says he will check his diary to see if he can fit in visits while in Melbourne to mosques previously firebombed in Islamophobic attacks.

Mr Murdoch yesterday made a private, low-key yet heavily publicised visit to the damaged Adass Israel Synagogue (main picture), accompanied by his current wife Elena Zhukova as well as Sky News after dark commentator Andrew Bolt.

During his walking tour of the firebombed building Mr Bolt and other News Crap Australia employees in attendance had their work strewing rose petals in front of him interrupted by The Bug’s Melbourne bureau’s religious affairs reporter who quizzed Mr Murdoch about any previous similar visits he had made to firebombed mosques in the city.

In particular our reporter asked if Mr Murdoch had visited the East Doncaster mosque that had been firebombed and daubed with anti-Islamic slogans in 2002, or the Imam Ali Islamic centre at Fawkner which was firebombed in 2016.

Mr Murdoch replied that he could not recall making such visits but would check his diary to see if the visits were possible while he was in Melbourne.

Our reporter also asked if Mr Murdoch planned to visit the sites of any of the dozens of mosques destroyed in Gaza by Israeli bombs since October last year – more than 30 of which were levelled in the first month of the Israel-Gaza genocide.

He said he would also check his diary to see if those visits were possible.

UPDATE: A spokesperson for Mr Murdoch later rang The Bug’s Melbourne bureau to expand on Mr Murdoch’s initial response, saying: “You’ve got to be fucking joking.”
