Climate conference learns a lesson

Organisers of the recent COP29 international conference on climate change say they have learned a valuable lesson which they will pass on to organisers of the next such meeting in 2025.

The 29th United Nations conference of partners (COP) on climate change was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November.

The COP30 event is now being planned for November 2025 in the city of Beleme in northern Brazil.

A spokesperson for COP29 said the Baku event had identified a major initiative all nations could take to help reduce their impact on climate change.

“After COP29 finished everyone involved in organising it sat down for a debrief during which we realised that around 65,000 people from most nations in the world had registered to attend the Baku event,” the spokesperson said.

“It suddenly struck as that all the aircraft emissions generated by all those people flying in to a place like Baku (main picture) maybe wasn’t a good thing for climate change.

“So we’ll be recommending to the COP30 organisers in Brazil to maybe put a ceiling of perhaps 60,000 on delegate numbers next year,” the spokesperson said.

The Redbridge opinion polling firm has apologised for a mistake in its latest findings that suggest voters have severely marked down Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his Labor Party government.

The poll published today in News Crap Australia outlets cast doubt on the re-election next year of the Albanese Government and showed growing support for Opposition leader Peter Dutton as respondents expressed anger at rising living costs.

“Unfortunately a key question we asked those taking part in our poll had a typographical error,” a Redbridge spokesperson said.

“This discovery casts doubt on the entire findings of the poll and we will need to go back into the field to redo it as soon as we can.”

The spokesperson said the problem arose from an initial question posed by Redbridge pollsters which was meant to ask respondents if they felt better than they did three years ago.

“Unfortunately the question actually asked them if they felt better than they did three beers ago,” the spokesperson said before adding: “Boom! Boom!”

US President-elect Donald Trump has been forced to rethink his choice for the position of US ambassador to Australia.

Sources within the Trump transition team said Mr Trump had been insistent that the job go to US children’s TV star Captain Kangaroo. (below)

“The President-elect believed his choice would be a great fit and expressed the view that he could not believe any previous President had not thought of the idea,” a source said.

“It was only after he was advised that Bob Keeshan who played Captain Kangaroo had died in 2004 that Mr Trump let go of the idea.

“He is now considering other options with the frontrunner being Meryl Streep.

“In addition to working out how to break the news to him, we are still trying to find out who gave him the DVD of Evil Angels,” the source said.
